Sophia Boockmeier joined CC United Soccer Club in 2021 with a definitive ambition: she wanted to play collegiate soccer, but her previous club wasn’t providing the pathway to get her there. Now, coming up on her fifth season with the organization, Sophia has transitioned from an elite competitive player to an inspiring youth coach. Inspiring the Next Generation: A Full-Circle Coaching Moment
One of Boockmeier’s favorite milestones at CC United highlights the tight-knit culture that binds the club's older and younger athletes. During her final competitive season as a player, she was simultaneously coaching a U12 girls' team within the club. In a powerful show of support, her young squad surprised her at a league game.
"They all showed up to the game. They were cheering super loud and had some really fun signs," Boockmeier smiles. "The cool thing about this experience for me was seeing how much the younger players within the program look up to the older players because of the example they're setting... When the final whistle blew, and I shook hands with the other team, finished up the team chat, the girls came running onto the field, and gave me a huge hug and wanted to celebrate the win with me. It just showed the impact that I can have on young players — not necessarily always making them the top player on the field, but helping them to have a positive experience, love the game, and love the experience that comes with the game of soccer."

"As we seek to develop the player, the more touches on the ball, the better. And so through the open door training policy, we have found a great balance in helping players reach their goals," explains Boockmeier.
