For over a decade, Fort Wayne United FC (formerly Fort Wayne Fever Academy) has been a pivotal part of Tyler Secrist’s life. Starting as an academy player who earned a spot at a Division I school, Tyler has now returned to the club as a proud parent, watching his 10-year-old daughter thrive in the same program that shaped his own career.

Initially drawn back to the club by the undeniable quality of coaching and high-level competition, Tyler quickly realized that Fort Wayne United offers an unmatched environment for young athletes. Here is an inside look at how the club balances elite technical training, character development, and team camaraderie to create the premier youth soccer experience in Northeast Indiana.

A Proven Pathway to the Next Level

When it came time to choose a club for his daughter, Tyler looked for the same foundational elements that propelled his own athletic and professional success. For him, the decision to return to Fort Wayne United was an easy one.

"I personally am a product of this club. Over a decade ago, I came up through the academy and earned an athletic scholarship to play Division One soccer," Tyler explains. "What initially attracted me back to the club is the quality of the coaching and the strength of the training and the competition. The skills and the core pillars that have not only translated to my athletic career collegiately, but also translated professionally."

Fostering Lifelong Friendships on and off the Pitch

While developing technical skills is a priority, some of the most rewarding aspects of club soccer happen away from the training grounds. As a parent, Tyler has cherished watching his daughter build meaningful relationships with her teammates, just as he did years ago.

"My favorite experience is watching her build friendships with her teammates," says Tyler. "When my wife and I are at the team hotel, her teammates all get together, have team dinners, and run around the hotel together. Those are some of my favorite memories when I was her age playing. Some of my lifelong friends I've met through this club and this platform."

Additionally, he notes the value of playing alongside highly talented peers: "It's been really enjoyable for me to watch her game just elevate literally weekly, because she's around other talented players and coaches that know the game at a high level."

A Day-to-Day Environment that Balances Competition and Joy

A successful youth soccer program must challenge its players without causing burnout. At the U10 level, Fort Wayne United places a heavy emphasis on repetition, technical growth, and athletic development while keeping the game fun and engaging.

"I really wanted my daughter to be in a competitive environment. I just feel like today it's OK to want to win," Tyler notes. "This club does a really good job of making it fun, competitive, and it's just an upper level... our coaches just do a really good job of getting the repetition on what these girls need to be focusing on at this age, but not burning the kids out and taking away the joy of the game."

Why Families Recommend Fort Wayne United FC

When asked if he would recommend Fort Wayne United to other soccer families, Tyler’s answer is a resounding yes. He points to the overarching life lessons that the club instills in its players — traits like discipline, patience, and the ability to face adversity.

"We highly recommend the club. We think it's the best club in the area, which is why we're here," Tyler affirms. "To become the best or compete with the best, you have to be around the best, and I firmly believe this club has the best coaching and training facility in this area to provide these kids an opportunity to excel and learn and love this game."
