For nearly seven years, Coach Emmanuel Porte has been a cornerstone of Park Valley United FC, helping to build a culture where both players and coaches can thrive.

Initially drawn to the club through a friend's recommendation, Porte quickly realized that Park Valley offered something special: a truly community-based environment. Here is an inside look at how Park Valley United balances holistic player development, extensive coach support, and top-notch facilities to create one of the best youth soccer experiences in the Midwest.

A Community-Based Approach to Player Development

When establishing its identity, Park Valley United made a commitment to prioritize the players above all else. For Porte, the most rewarding aspect of his tenure has been witnessing the long-term development of his athletes.

"My favorite experience at Park Valley has been just watching how the players grow in this environment," Porte explains. "From when you started with them, maybe at U12, and then now seeing them at U16 or U17, and just seeing how they have grown as people and also as players."

Memorable Milestones on the Pitch at Park Valley United FC

That focus on development naturally translates to competitive success, particularly as players navigate the crucial transition from 9v9 to 11v11 formats.

Porte highlights a standout moment during the Minnesota Cup with his U17 boys' team. "Having the team play in that tournament for such a long time and not make it to that stage... to then be a runner-up and compete for a championship. That’s one of the best things ever as a coach."

Supporting Coaches On and Off the Field

A club is only as strong as its coaching staff, and Park Valley United invests heavily in the men and women leading their teams. Rather than micromanaging, the club’s leadership provides a supportive environment that allows coaches to make mistakes, correct them, and ultimately grow.

"They support your coaching career of how far you want to go," notes Porte. "They're behind you all the way, and they encourage you to get your coaching certificates. That has significantly impacted the type of coach I am today... being more of a tactical thinker, and knowing how to prepare my training sessions and transition into game readiness."

This supportive structure extends beyond the pitch. With flexible scheduling, coaches like Porte — a dedicated family man — can easily balance the demands of the club with the needs of their families.

Top-Notch Facilities and Seamless Communication

One of the distinct advantages Park Valley United offers its members is the quality of its training environments. According to Porte, the club’s facilities are some of the best in the state of Minnesota, highlighted by exceptionally well-kept grass, updated goals, and a strong emphasis on family safety.

Pair this with highly responsive directors who keep the staff informed on everything from league updates to global coaching trends, and it creates an incredibly smooth operating environment for everyone involved.

Why Families and Coaches Recommend Park Valley

When asked if he would recommend the club to a friend or colleague, Porte's answer is emphatic.

"Yes, I would recommend Park Valley United to anyone. I think we're the best club within the state of Minnesota... It feels like a true family environment," Porte says. "Park Valley allows you as a coach to really display what you have. Best club, best environment, best facility, best coaches."
