The jump from recreational soccer to a competitive environment can be a daunting milestone for young athletes. For Sawyer Wolfe, that transition happened two years ago when he joined Colorado Rush. Seeking a higher level of play and a more challenging atmosphere, Sawyer found a club that not only elevated his technical skills but also instilled a deep sense of "tenacity" and "sympathy" that he carries both on and off the pitch.
Throughout his first two seasons with the 2014 Blue Competitive team, Sawyer has thrived on the increased intensity. A standout memory from last season saw his team secure first place in their bracket — a hard-earned victory that resulted in a promotion to an even tougher division. For Sawyer, the added difficulty isn't a deterrent; it's the highlight of the experience. By consistently playing against stronger competition, he has learned that "working hard" and "thinking ahead" are the keys to staying on top.
However, the impact of Colorado Rush goes far beyond the win-loss column. Sawyer credits the club’s culture with teaching him the emotional intelligence required to be a great teammate. Whether it’s celebrating a goal with a "funny celebration" or offering support when a friend is having a rough day, the club has fostered an environment where kindness and hard work go hand-in-hand. For Sawyer, being a Rush player means having the sympathy to "let them off easy" when they make a mistake and the grit to "never give up," even when things get hard.
"I would want my friends and family to play on this club because everybody’s awesome there... they help you learn a lot, and they always teach you to never give up, even though things may be hard." – Sawyer Wolfe
Now fully integrated into the competitive landscape, Sawyer’s advice for those just starting their journey is a reflection of the Rush mindset: be ready to play any position, work your hardest, and keep pushing forward. By providing a pathway from rec soccer to the competitive ranks, Colorado Rush has equipped Sawyer with the resilience and versatility needed to succeed as he continues to climb the divisions.
