Building a Foundation of Joy and Growth: Inside Park Valley United
For over a decade, Michael Davis has helped shape the culture at Park Valley United, bringing nearly 20 years of coaching experience to the sidelines. Central to his philosophy — and the club’s mission — is ensuring kids build confidence, develop a deep love for the sport, and push themselves alongside their teammates.
Here is an inside look at how Park Valley United balances individual player development, collaborative coaching, and a tight-knit community to deliver an exceptional youth soccer experience.
A Player-Centric Environment Built on Retention and Joy
When establishing goals for his teams, Davis focuses on long-term growth over immediate tournament wins. To him, true success is measured by whether players are learning and excited to return year after year.
"It's not about the wins or losses, especially at the younger age, but are they building the foundation to help themselves and their teammates as they grow and develop," Davis explains. He notes that the most rewarding moments often come from watching a team overcome adversity or find excitement in small, individual accomplishments. Whether a player moves on to college-level soccer or simply joins an intramural team because they genuinely love the game, Park Valley United strives to foster that lifelong passion from ages 11 to 19.
Investing in Collaborative Coach Education
A club is only as strong as its coaching staff, and Park Valley United actively supports its leadership. With a roster of coaches who boast 10 to 20-plus years of experience, the club has built a unique culture of mentorship and collaboration.
Because of the club's tightly-knit structure, coaches frequently attend each other's training sessions, bounce ideas off one another, and share new methodologies. "The club also supports us going to coaching courses to get certificates or training licenses," Davis shares. "Just as we ask the players to go to camps to become better, we go to coaching courses to become better coaches. Hand in hand... this becomes a stronger team and helps everyone grow."
A Community-Driven Approach to Facilities
One of the distinct advantages of Park Valley United is the physical layout of its training spaces. By clumping fields together for junior and competitive age groups, the club creates an organic, supportive environment.
This centralized setup allows coaches, players, and parents to interact seamlessly. If a coach is running late or sick, another can easily step in. More importantly, it brings the club together on game days. As Davis notes, "You can sit and watch the other teams play and provide support... it’s fun if there are teams close to advancing to the next level, to be able to watch them grow and cheer them on."
Why Families Recommend Park Valley United
When asked if he would recommend the club to a friend or colleague, Davis's answer is immediate. He points to the club's ability to tailor training programs to fit both family logistics and a player's individual ambitions.
For families looking for a holistic soccer experience, Park Valley United offers the perfect balance. It provides highly experienced coaching and robust player development, all within an environment intentionally designed to build character and lifelong friendships.
